New Jersey Boating Education Requirements:
Anyone under the age of 13 years may not legally operate any motorized vessel on New Jersey waters. Anyone between the ages of 13 and 16 years may operate a vessel 12 feet or longer that is powered by an electric motor of less than 10 horsepower only if he or she has successfully completed an approved boater safety course. Anyone 16 years of age or older must successfully complete a boater safety course to operate a PWC.
A photo ID is required for admittance into the In-Person Exam. You must be at least 13 years old to take this online course. You do not have to be a resident of New Jersey to take this online course
You must bring your New Jersey Online Course Completion Certificate and a photo identification (such as your driver's license or school ID) with you. You will not be permitted to take the New Jersey In-Person Boating Exam without presenting your Course Completion Certificate and a photo ID.
Students should arrive 90 minutes before the end of class (weekends: 3-4:30pm*, weeknights: 8-9:30pm*). Students will have time to complete the required NJSP paperwork, hear a review, and take a 60-question multiple-choice test. We'll grade it right there and with a score of 80 or better, students will leave with a temporary boating safety certificate, and receive their NJSP issued card and NASBLA card in the mail a few weeks later. The NASBLA card, when presented with the NJ Boat Safety Certificate, may be required when operating a vessel outside of New Jersey. The temporary certificate is valid for one year.
On-line students will take the exam at the same time as our “In--person” students Payment of $40 cash or check payable to Boat Safe US, LLC required upon entrance to proctored exam. Pre-payment for proctored exam is not available. Note: exams are NOT given on the 1st night of a 2 night class.
