Upon successful completion of the class and exam, you will leave with a temporary boating safety certificate.  You will receive your NJSP issued boating safety certificate and your NASBLA card in the mail a few weeks later. (Check the status here)  Your temporary certificate is valid for one year. 

You will receive two cards in the mail:

The first, is the New Jersey State Police Boating Safety Certificate. 
This card is REQUIRED to operate a powered vessel in New Jersey


The second is a NASBLA card. 
Your National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) card, when presented with your NJ Boat Safety Certificate, may be required when operating a vessel outside of New Jersey.
