***Instructions for parents to receive their child’s NJ Boating Safety Certificate:

Your Child’s Name and information has been entered into the States database. In order for you to receive the child’s certificate, the state requires you to do the following:

Your Child MUST BE 13 Years of age and must have taken the Boaters Safety Course when they were at least 12 years old.

There are two ways to receive your child’s certificate.

By US Postal Service Mail
Send the following documents to the address listed below:
*Copy of your child’s birth certificate
*Copy of the exam certificate he/she received showing successful completion of the course
*Copy of Parents drivers’ license (proof that parent is requesting the certificate)
Please list the address you would like the card mailed to along with a phone number.
Mail the above to:

   Box 7068
  West Trenton, NJ 08628

By E-Mail
You can e-mail the following documents to the New Jersey State Police Headquarters (Marine Services Bureau). 
In the Subject Box type the following: 
                       Parent requesting Child’s Boating Safety Certificate
*Copy of your child’s birth certificate
*Copy of the exam certificate he/she received showing successful completion of the course
*Copy of Parents drivers’ license (proof that parent is requesting the certificate)
Please list the address you would like the card mailed to along with a phone number.

***How to get a replacement NJ Boating Safety Certificate:

Only New Jersey State issued boating safety certificates can be replaced by the Marine Services Bureau. Certificates issued by other states, the United States Coast Guard, the United States Power Squadron, or any other agency can not be re-issued by the Marine Services Bureau.
The preferred means of communication with the Marine Services Bureau regarding certificate replacement is via e-mail, this will allow us to serve you in the most efficient means possible. E-mail requests should be sent to njboatcert@njsp.org, for the Subject of your email, type "Replacement Card Request"
scanned copies of the below information must be in .jpg/.bmp format or in a Microsoft word document. If it is not possible to e-mail your request you can request a replacement certificate by writing to:

Requests must include the following information;
1. Full legal name, in the case of a legal name change you must include your full legal name as it appeared on your original certificate as well as your current legal name, proof of name change (marriage certificate etc.) .
2. Complete address, in the case of a address change you must include your address as it appeared on your original certificate as well as your current address.
3. Identification and proof of address e.g., photocopy of drivers license etc.
4. Certificate number as it appears on your certificate (if known).
5. Home telephone with area code, daytime phone number with area code and an e-mail address.
6. A self-addressed stamped envelope (mail in requests)

 

We at Boat Safe US, LLC guarantee we are fully approved by the NJ State Police and follow their guidelines accordingly.
As per the NJ State Police: A brief description of the manner in which approved boat safety courses taught for the issuance of New Jersey boat safety certificates must be administered follows below. A course that does not meet one of the below listed descriptions is not valid.

1. One Day Boat Safety Course: An approved one-day boat safety course must be at least 8 hours in length. It must consist of in-person, formal instruction provided by an approved boating safety instructor, and must culminate with a closed book, in-person, proctored exam. The time required to complete the exam is included within the 8 hour time requirement. No more than I ten minute break is permitted per hour. Meal breaks, etc. are not included within the 8 hour course.

2. Multiple Day Boat Safety Course: An approved multiple day boat safety course must consist of at least 6 hours of in-person, formal instruction provided by an approved boating safety instructor. The course must culminate with a closed book, in-person, proctored exam, administered by an approved boating safety instructor. Written homework must be assigned as necessary, so that the total course time (6 or more hours of in-person instruction + test + written homework) equals at least 8 hours. The time required to complete the exam and homework is not counted within the 6 hours of in-person instruction. No more than I ten minute break is permitted per hour. Meal breaks, etc. are not included within the 6 hours of in-person instruction.
